WHAT IS CDPD?
It is a high speed packet data network operating in parallel with the existing cellular voice network. Upon card swipe, the encrypted transaction data is sent over the CDPD network to the credit card processor which authorizes the transaction and sends back an approval code to the terminal which generates a two-part customer receipt.
IT IS FAST AND INEXPENSIVE
The speed of the transaction is because the CDPD-initiated transactions bypass local phone line services. There will also be no delays due to modem handshaking and network inefficiencies associated with traditional dial-up type transactions. The high monthly cost of a dial tone is also eliminated resulting in fast and inexpensive credit and debit card transactions virtually anywhere.
NOTE: Some areas of the United States, particularly rural areas, do not yet have CDPD coverage. To find out if there is CDPD coverage in your area CLICK HERE.
